We played a great gig the other week at Opus 4 Jazz Club in Darlington, with the fabulous Mick Shoulder on bass. It's a great little club and has had some pretty esteemed guests over the years. I was particularly honoured to stand on the same stage as Dexter Gordon (once upon a time) and play in a classy room to an appreciative crowd. We don't normally play standards, but as it was the Fiftieth anniversary of the first Moon landings, we threw a couple of moon-related tunes into the mix. Julie London is a pretty big deal in Rivieraville, so 'Fly Me to the Moon,' complete with the string vamp, was a must. I'm a big fan of space travel, but with a rhythm section consisting of Mick Shoulder, Mark Williams and Russ Morgan , I'd rather stay on Terra Firma and play some tunes!
