We played a great gig the other week at Opus 4 Jazz Club in Darlington, with the fabulous Mick Shoulder on bass. It's a great little club and has had some pretty esteemed guests over the years. I was particularly honoured to stand on the same stage as Dexter Gordon (once upon a time) and play in a classy room to an appreciative crowd.
We don't normally play standards, but as it was the Fiftieth anniversary of the first Moon landings, we threw a couple of moon-related tunes into the mix. Julie London is a pretty big deal in Rivieraville, so 'Fly Me to the Moon,' complete with the string vamp, was a must. I'm a big fan of space travel, but with a rhythm section consisting of Mick Shoulder, Mark Williams and Russ Morgan , I'd rather stay on Terra Firma and play some tunes! Thanks to Noel Robertson, who runs Opus Four.

Welcome to our new website! There’s plenty to be excited about in Rivieraville this year. For starters, this is the place to access our music – please follow us on Spotify!
Our second album, Riviera Deluxe, will soon be available online also and is a step forward in terms of production and arrangements, packed with the vocal numbers from our live set as well as some adaptations of tunes that were premiered last year with the Strictly Smokin’ Big Band. The album was recorded in the summer at Loft Studio in Newcastle and Engineered and mixed by Adam Sinclair.
The next big live date on the horizon is a very special event, Music for Mike, a double-header with James Birkett and Emma Fisk, in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Trust, to honour Mike Furlonger, a long-time stalwart and supporter of the Jazz scene in the UK, who died last year. We’ll be adding more dates to our calendar shortly.
